This tutorial will teach you how to create a trippy gradient effect to use on shirts in signs.
Start with a new document. Click on the gradient tool and change the gradient type to the 10 point one, featured below.
Choose one of the repeating gradients you have and click in the middle of the screen and drag either upwards or downwards, you will get an effect that looks like this:
Go to Filter / Distort / Wave.
Match your settings to mine below:
When you hit OK, you should have something like this:
I define these as patterns so that I can use them in multiple signs/backgrounds since I constantly use the same color schemes. Select the shirt and use a Pattern Fill Layer to fill the shirt area. Set the Fill Layer to Overlay and mess with your brightness/contrast if necessary.
And that’s it!
This effect also looks great if you do it for sign backgrounds or premade trippy backgrounds!
